I painted this work after several days of intense rain. And yet, the delicate blooms of flowers in my garden survived. The sky was still cloudy, which made the colorful flowers seem even brighter.

Style:
Ryan builds the composition from tightly arranged vertical bands and offset rectangular blocks that read as a calibrated field of color rather than a single scene. The surface is matte and even, with crisp edges, narrow overlaps, and visible painterly decisions at the joins, so the work holds both structure and hand. Pale aqua, salmon, chrome gray, red, mustard, turquoise, and earthy brown advance and recede in a rhythm that keeps the eye moving across the entire panel. In its geometry and chromatic clarity, the painting is in conversation with hard-edge abstraction, color field painting, and the ordered lyricism of early non-objective painting.
