Beckles builds the composition around a severe vertical axis: a dense black central panel holds a grid of teal and yellow disks, while a broad orange cap, fractured side fields of red, yellow, and black splatter, and a large teal circle at the base lock the structure into place. The eye meets the high-contrast surface first—the gloss of acrylic on plexiglass intensifies the blacks and makes the neon reds and metallic yellows flare against the dark ground. The work joins hard-edge geometry to action-painting residue, placing serial circles, poured drips, and sprayed flecks in direct tension with clean rectangular bands. It stands in conversation with postwar abstraction, the chromatic audacity of Color Field painting, and the graphic discipline of geometric and neo-avant-garde composition.
