This is an abstract painting of swirling pastel shapes. I painted this a few summers ago to symbolize the flurry of events and happy times I had in the lazy days of that summer.

Style:
Ryan builds the surface from tightly cut planes of pastel pink, aqua, lemon, lavender, peach, and cobalt, then interrupts them with vertical bands and wedge-like shards that keep the composition in motion. The paint handling is even and opaque, with crisp edges and a matte, chalky clarity that gives the work a poster-like immediacy while preserving the hand of the brush. The arrangement belongs to the language of non-objective abstraction and hard-edge painting, with a bright postmodern cadence that recalls the buoyant geometry of early color abstraction without surrendering to nostalgia. The result is a compact field of calibrated tension, where the eye moves from one clipped shape to the next across a surface built from rhythm, balance, and collision.
