This abstract acrylic painting uses blue, green, and yellow colors and has what I think of as a "crazy quilt" composition. I chose this composition because it reflects the light in a nearby lake where I walk every day.

Vanessa Ryan’s Reflections meets the eye with a field of fractured turquoise, aqua, blue, green, and lemon-yellow planes that lock together in a vivid allover composition. The surface is built through clean acrylic layering, with crisp-edged shapes and narrow seams of black and pale ground that sharpen the rhythm of the piece. The painting’s "crazy quilt" structure organizes the canvas into shifting facets, creating a sense of light breaking across water while keeping the image firmly abstract. Ryan’s method stands in the lineage of early non-objective painting and postwar color abstraction, joined here to a contemporary decorative energy and a strong sense of visual pulse.
