I painted this at the beginning of June. It's a painting that expresses my optimism for the rest of the year. More people felt like socializing, because the weather was great for outdoor parties and nature hikes.

June presents as a bright, architectonic field of vertical bands and staggered rectangular blocks, with the eye moving first to the saturated reds, greens, yellows, and aqua notes that punctuate the surface. Ryan builds the image through clean-edged acrylic passages and layered color fields, letting narrow seams and under-painted divisions register as controlled tensions inside an otherwise buoyant order. The composition holds between structure and improvisation: repeated columns create rhythm, while angled color breaks and uneven joins keep the surface active and human. The work extends the lineage of non-objective painting, in conversation with Color Field clarity and the disciplined, chromatic intelligence of postwar abstraction.
