I painted this in January 2025. January is usually a let-down from all the holiday celebrations in November and December, but not this January. The weather was warm, and I enjoyed walking in a nearby park every day. That lifted my spirits and renewed my artistic energy.

Ryan builds the image from sharply cut, interlocking planes that read like shards of paper laid across a luminous sky-blue ground. The surface carries the crispness of acrylic with visible brush movement in the softer blue passages, while small flecks and slight overlaps keep the geometry alive rather than mechanical. The palette turns on a summer-bright mix of aqua, lemon, tangerine, lilac, blush, white, and cobalt, so the composition feels buoyant even as the angles push and pull against one another. Her work stands in conversation with postwar non-objective painting and Color Field abstraction, especially where flat chroma and optimistic spatial rhythm take precedence over depiction.
