At first glance, the work reads as a dense, oval field of pressure and radiance: a black ground drives the eye into bands of electric green, red, and leafed gold that strike across the surface in violent, gestural bursts. Beckles builds the image with acrylic on plexiglass, and the material handling is emphatic—thick metallic passages, splatter, drips, and slick, high-gloss passages create a surface that catches light like lacquer and broken enamel. The central black disc, ringed by neon green spray and punctuated by a small red-and-gold core, anchors the composition and turns the surrounding turbulence into a target-like pulse. The work extends the lineage of abstract expressionism and postwar color-field experimentation into a contemporary, reflective surface language aligned with street-inflected paint handling and optical intensity.
