Beckles centers the eye on a vertical totem set against a blank white field: a circular head, a narrow shaft, and weighted geometric terminals that give the work the force of an emblem. The surface is built from hard black grounds crowded with explosive splatters of red, yellow, gold, and acid green, producing a dense optical shimmer across the plexiglass. The composition fuses symmetry with agitation, recalling the urgency of Abstract Expressionism and the graphic impact of late-20th-century neo-expressionist and street-informed mark-making. The glossy support sharpens every drip and burst, so the work reads as both painted object and sign.
