27 X 15 X 1.5 IN. OIL PAINTING ON WOOD PANEL. GALLERY WRAPPED EDGES, PAINTED BLACK. Nature is refreshing. Looks like hot tea on a cool morning in Wisconsin with an overcast sky. The brilliant white haze of light comes from everywhere when it’s like this. You can almost go snowblind with no snow. Pretty sure my camp experiences led me to do this one.

Stephen is Steven Curtis of the Madison area in Wisconsin. I didn't grow up here, but it's a great place to land. I grew up in the flat lands of the center of Illiniois, dominated by pollen from corn, beans, and dust. It was good for the imagination. I was an artist from childhood, and started work in photography in my early 20s, culminating in a degree in Film, and have managed a videography business. Central to all of these was composition. In cinema, it's known as "mise-en-scene", or arrangement. The challenge of that is that cinema moves, and has sound. It is multi-disciplinary. I have rerturned now later in life to the more pure forms of art in still representations, working in oil paints, primarily on wood panels. Artist Statement

My artist adventure is deeply rooted in the capture and preservation of beauty. This is a controversial point however since “beauty is fleeting”, but it’s also been posited that “beauty will save the world”. Not to mention that it is highly subjective, or so it seems. So I spend time searching out images and recreating beauty as I find it. That in turn has shaped my vision and stretched me personally in ways unexpected.
