This abstract painting depicts the joy and fun I experienced at a local parade. where everyone was having a great time. Much of my work is about the joy of life.

Vanessa Ryan’s Festival meets the eye as a field of angular color planes locked into a brisk, celebratory rhythm. Acrylic is handled in flat, opaque passages with crisp edges and a few irregular specks and pinprick marks that keep the surface lively rather than sealed, while the large salmon-pink forms, electric red accents, and cool aqua, lilac, and slate-blue intervals create a buoyant, prismatic balance. The composition reads like a collage of parade flags and confetti translated into hard-edged abstraction, with overlapping shards generating movement across the entire canvas. Ryan’s work stands in conversation with postwar non-objective painting and the chromatic clarity of geometric abstraction, where color and structure carry the emotional charge.
