Style:
What meets the eye first is the electric green field, cut through by a central target-like structure that organizes the entire composition around a hard, frontal axis. Beckles builds the surface in acrylic with dense splatter, dripped passages, and opaque blocks of color, so the work reads at once as painted image and worked object on plexiglass. The palette is severe and charged: emerald, black, cobalt, sulfur yellow, peach, and deep maroon lock into a rhythm of impact and restraint. The work stands in conversation with Color Field painting, postwar abstraction, and the graphic urgency of downtown New York painting, where sign, symbol, and surface carry equal weight.
