The eye meets the work as a tight, faceted octagon that floats against a white field, immediately framing Beckles’s image as an object as much as a painting. The surface is built from glossy acrylic drips, splashes, and pooled passages in acid green, black, gold, and sharp red, with the plexiglass lending the colors a hard, vitrified sheen. Dense accumulation and abrupt negative space produce a field of controlled turbulence, aligning the work with Abstract Expressionism, action painting, and the later material intensity of postwar acrylic abstraction.
